PRADA SPRING 2010 RUNWAY CRYSTAL BAG :SNOB OR SLOB?

Miuccia Prada’s fantasy romp on the beach for spring featured more than just Bermuda shorts and scuba-inspired garments. The finale boasted a lineup of gorgeous crystal-embellished dresses, tops and skirts that were reminiscent of chic chandeliers whose design aesthetic spilled over into the shoes and prada handbags.
What do you think of these prada bags? At first I was befuddled; I mean, really, a see-through PVC handbag with crystal-encrusted closure? It may be two-tone and polished and brushed and trimmed in hemp, but the four-figure price seemed a bit steep for such a one-season bag regardless of whether or not you summer on the Mediterranean.
Also, do you really want your bag’s innards on full display? On the other hand, frequent fliers might find the bag handy while going through security. So to play devil’s advocate, I decided to also feature a less extraneous beige two-tone hemp bag with crystal clasp that’s significantly less expensive. A little crystal I can deal with; a deluge verging on Noah’s Ark proportion is quite another story.
Beyond that, what more is there to say? I like the structured doctor’s bag shape and what’s more, the idea that the Prada purses logo is cast in shadow by the crystal clasp–making for an even more muted look. It’s a perfectly delightful bag for the summer.
